Happiness Is..

A breath of fresh air after been cooped up inside for far too long.

And when that air happens to be San Francisco and 70 degrees…well, that’s just the icing on the cake.

“Who will tell whether one happy moment of love or the joy of breathing or walking on a bright morning and smelling the fresh air, is not worth all the suffering and effort which life implies.” – Erich Fromm

Bucket List: PaleyFest

I don’t have an organized bucket list of things I want to do (I should really get on that) but there are three things I can name off the top of my head: take part in a flash mob, visit Greece, and go to PaleyFest.

(Remember, my nickname of The Walking TV Guide? Yep, my TV addiction is no joke.)

PaleyFest, which is presented by the Paley Center for Media, showcases various television shows with panels. The panels consist of the actors as well as members of the creative team, such as the writers. The event takes place over two weeks in Beverly Hills, California.

This year, some of the shows being featured are Community, Once Upon a Time, Vampire Diaries, Modern Family, and Revenge.

What I find most exciting about PaleyFest is getting the inside scoop on what is to come in these TV shows. The panels fall at an appropriate time, as most shows are currently on hiatus right now (until April..sigh) and so the juicy tidbits being dropped by the cast and crew can hold us over in the meantime.

And although I am not able to attend PaleyFest this year, I can look forward to getting the play by play updates on Twitter as well as watch the livestream. Some of the shows I’m looking forward to catching are: Vampire Diaries, Modern Family, and Revenge. PopSugar, of the Sugar Network is also posting updates on its site.

What’s on your bucket list?

MOO Cards

I’ve always found business cards to be boring. Sure, it tells you where the person works, but it is completely devoid of any personality or spunk. This all changed when I came across MOO Cards.

I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of designs they carried that were both fun yet professional. You can even custom design the back of your business card to include a photo you have taken yourself or even your Facebook timeline photo.  The customization allowed in creating these cards really lets your personality shine through and keep you fresh in the minds of those that you handed it to.

I highly recommend using MOO Cards if you are in a creative industry and/or if you want to set yourself apart from others.

Courage and a Double Feature

Just a few of the movie tickets I’ve collected over the years.

Our local theater had a 2 for 1 special on Saturday night, showing My Week with Marilyn and The Iron Lady. I absolutely love doing double features and both movies were amazing. I’ve started to read Love Walked In by Marisa de los Santos and I’m already obsessed with her style of writing.

Here are some words (or pictures) of wisdom, regarding courage.

Week in Review

The weather has been absolutely b-e-a-utiful this week; we’re talking 70 degrees and not a cloud in sight. Even though it has been a mild winter, I had forgotten what the sun felt like and let me say it feels so, so good. I just hope that this isn’t a tease and that spring is here to stay. Fingers crossed, right?

Other than the weather, here’s a look at some of things that have made my week.

JK Rowling announces her next novel, for adults – I have ridiculously high expectations for this novel, but can you blame me? The Harry Potter series is certainly tough to live up to, but I’m sure whatever the subject matter is it will be a great book. Even though it lacks a title, I’ve already added it to my GoodReads to-read list. (Excited, much?)

How Pinterest Helped Clean a House – and Save a Marriage – I love reading feel good, human interest stories and this one is no exception- except for the fact that Pinterest plays a major part in it. Just a nice reminder that social media sites can often be so much more than just a way to spend your time.

Pastel Yellow Dress– Hi, my name’s Ami and I’m addicted to pastels. Seriously, my closet is full of them. I’ve been doing a good job of weaning myself off of them after nearly having an intervention while shopping for my brother’s wedding. (I think I did good, don’t you?) But there’s something about light, sweet colors that gets me. Every. Single. Time.

Philosophy’s Vanilla Birthday Cake Lip Shine – Lip gloss + vanilla cake scent = amazing. If I can resist the urge to lick it off because it smells so divine, it leaves my lips moisturized and offers a neutral shine to boot.

HelloGiggles

I follow a lot of blogs and websites, and enjoy reading the interesting articles they have to offer. A new site was recently added to my rotation: HelloGiggles.

HelloGiggles, a website mainly centered around/for women, immediately caught my attention because of the variety of content.  The site, which was created by actress Zooey Deschanel, Molly McAleer, and Sophia Rossi, touches on the different interests that appeal to women today.

The topics range from beauty, recipes, cuteness (seriously), entertainment, and a section titled Women Working to do Good. They also discuss social issues facing women and society as a whole. (It was actually an article on HelloGiggles that inspired this post.)

It has become the site I go to for a pick me up. It offeres me a giggle or two, but even more than that it is inspiring to read stories about everyday independent, and creative women. The articles are well-crafted, witty, and informative.

Window Art

As most know already, my brother got married last October. (I wrote about it here and here.) Although only one event was taking place at our house, we still wanted to decorate it fully. We were also taking a bus down to LA and wanted to decorate it.

After talking to a particularly crafty friend of mine, I decided to look into glass markers. I was instantly reminded about high school and Spirit Week; the parking lot would be filled with cars decorated with things like Seniors 2004 on the windows.

They were the perfect solution: easy to apply, they came in bright colors, and would be able to withstand a 6 hour drive down I-5.

After making a quick trip to Michaels, I got to drawing. Here’s a look at how it turned out.

Blueberry Bars

Ever since I made the peppermint bark cookies back in December, I’ve been wanting to try a different variation. The shortbread-like crust opens it up for many possible pairings. For example, you could add chocolate chips and walnuts. I decided to keep it simple and use blueberries.

I mainly followed this recipe as a starting point. Some changes: I used egg whites instead of eggs and wheat flour twice instead of all purpose flour. I also cut down on the sugar, as I didn’t want it to get too sweet with the addition of the blueberries.

It was quick and easy to bake, with wonderfully tasty results. I’m looking forward to having these blueberry bars for breakfast all week.

The Power of Smiling

The best weekends are those that are an equal mix of productive yet lazy. I took care of some things I’ve been putting off for a while, such as fixing up this website (check out the updated header and the about page). I also continued reading The Paris Wife, napped, and enjoyed many cups of tea.

Last week was rather busy, so I am looking forward to a more relaxed few days ahead with some continued productivity.

Below is a Ted Talk about the power of smiling. Smiling is certainly underrated – studies have proven that those that smile live longer and the simple task also has a great benefit on one’s overall health. So don’t hold back; show your pearly whites!

Have a fabulous week!
